What is the purpose of therapy?
The purpose of therapy is to help you change emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that cause you pain or keep you from living the life you desire. It is a process of self-awareness, growth, and empowerment in which the therapist and client collaborate to help you unearth strengths and develop strategies to surmount the challenges that are keeping you from being content.
How long does therapy take?
It is essential to keep in mind that therapy is not a magic pill or a quick fix – it is a healing process that necessitates participation and investment from both the client and the therapist. Every every person brings with them a unique background and set of circumstances along with differing definitions of what a successful outcome would be. Consequently, how long therapy takes varies from individual to individual. I offer clients different therapeutic ways to address challenges and suggest homework assignments when appropriate, but my clients always determine the pace of therapy.
How do I choose the right therapist?
After determining that the education, training, and services offered by a therapist align with what you’re looking for, there is something to be said for trusting your gut reactions. Whenever possible, I encourage clients to have an initial phone conversation with the therapist to answer any questions or concerns they may have before the first session. After one to three sessions, you should feel comfortable with the therapist. If you don’t, honestly share your discomfort. It is a positive means of self-advocacy, and a therapist should suggest other providers that might be a better fit.
What are the fees? How will insurance work?
The fee is $175 for a 50-minute session, and $350 for a two-hour couple intensive session (50-minute sessions are often not enough time for a couple that is experiencing a relational crisis). For phone consultations over 15 minutes, and sessions over the allotted time, the fee is $45 per 15 minutes. As the practice is not in network with insurance plans, upon request, I will provide you with a monthly invoice for you to submit to your insurance carrier. Most insurance companies will reimburse you directly for seeing an out-of-network therapist. You may find it helpful to call your insurance company in advance to determine your coverage.
What is the cancellation policy?
A 24-hour cancellation notice is required to avoid incurring the cost of a session time reserved for you.
